Hamedan is a mountainous city with the height of 1800 m above the sea level, located on the hillside of Alvand mountain range and this mountain has been continued to the eastern borders of Hamedan province.

Hamedan is one of the western provinces of Iran, which is limited to Zanjan province from the north, Lorestan province from the south, Markazi province from the east, and to Kermanshah and Kurdistan provinces from the west. The highest point of Hamedan province is Alvand peak with a height of 3574 m and the lowest point is Omarabad lands near Gharacheh River in the Shara and Pishkhar districts. Hamedan province has 8 cities, 16 towns, 18 districts and 68 villages, and its capital is the city of Hamadan.

The cities of the province are: Hamedan, Malayer, Tuyserkan, Nahavand, Kabudarahang, Asadabad, Bahar, Razan and Famenin.

This city enjoys a moderate climate in summer and cold and snowy climate in the winter.

Avicenna mausoleum is the symbol of this city .The central square of Hamedan is known for radial plan by its rare architectural style in the world.  Ancient Greek historian, Herodotus, states that it was the capital of the Medes, around 700 BC. and also known for outstanding historical and ancient, religious, natural centers and handicrafts such as pottery and ceramic, leather, carpet, Glim, Jajim, as well as the industrial complexes and factories.

People who live in Hamedan speak in Farsi Pahlavi with Hamedani dialect; also there are others with Turki, Kurdi and Lori dialects live in Hamedan and most of them are followers of Asna Ashari Shia’.

Hamadan is Iran’s oldest city, the first capital of the Median kingdom and one of the oldest cities in the world.

Nowadays Hamedan province is known as the fifth cultural and tourist city of the country for having historical and sightseeing centers.

In addition, In the years 1300 to 1304 Solar year, the German engineer Carl Frisch designed a modern design for Hamadan which is a type of radial maps.

Hamadan is the 14th most populous city in Iran and was introduced as one of the major metropolises of Iran in August 2009. The majority language of Hamedan is Persian but due to its proximity to Lorestan, Kurdistan and Zanjan there are speakers of Lori, Kurdish and Turkish languages ​​as well.

Hamadan’s beautiful climate due to the high mountains, rivers and springs, high and lowlands and high altitudes.
